Capital Punishment: Introduction
Why is it a problem worth investigating?
We chose the topic of Capital Punishment, or the death penalty, as we believed it would be an interesting topic. This is because there are very valid reasons to have the death penalty, and to not have the death penalty. This makes it a very important topic in the world today, with countries often abolishing it as the moral principles come into play. Yet there are some circumstances where people believe that the death sentence should be used if the dangerous individual cannot be contained. We also each have our own views on the topic - meaning that we will be able to deliver a more diversified response to the question.
What it is that you want to do with the answer to your question?
We want to inform people with both sides of the argument and based on this the logical answer to whether or not the death penalty should be abolished - or introduced into more countries. If introduced certain laws will have to be implemented and coordinating with other country’s laws- as suggested further in the essay.
Outcome:
The outcome of our research will either be a pamphlet with all of the information that we have researched, or alternatively a powerpoint to be presented in front of the class in which we will essentially describe the same points. Another possibility would be to create a website with everything that we have learnt on it. This may be the best option as it is easier to accomplish and the information would be widely accessible.

Rationale:
The reason we chose this topic is because it is a very controversial issue and there are many opinions and even in our group there were many differing ones, this made discussions about our topic very interesting and allowed us to hear other view points and argue for our own. Investigating this topic lets us research more about the legal systems of the world and how other countries deal with crime and if there can be a right or wrong way to deliver punishments to offenders. Capital punishment is far more accepted in the Middle East and southern Asia than in the western world. Countries such as Singapore, which has a booming economy and enormous economic growth, still use the death penalty for murder, drug trafficking, firearm offences and kidnapping, even when many countries in Europe think of it as a barbaric practice.
